Vallarpadam Idapally railway link in Kochi is the longest Railway link of India

Vallarpadam Idapally railway link in Kochi, Kerela is the longest railway bridge in India. It is an 8.8 km long rail corridor connecting International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) on Vallarpadam Island with the railway station at Idapally, a suburb in Kochi.

Company Involved

Work for this rail link was undertaken by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). Work began in May 2007, construction work started in October 2007. The work was completed in March 2010 and successful trial run was conducted on March 31st 2010.

Budget and route

The railway link and related infra were built at the cost of Rs. 350 Crores. The link starting from Idapally runs 3 km parallel to an existing track till Vaduthala. Nearly 80% of the bridge is built over water. It passes over various islands like – Idyakkara, Mulavukad and others on its way to Vallarpadam.
