BMW Motorrad India opened its order books today for the new F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure. These adventure motorcycles feature tuned up engine, upgraded hardware, new colours, fresh design, and additional features.
2024 BMW F 900 GS & F 900 GS Adventure: Design & features
The F 800 GS is positioned as an entry-level motorcycle, ideal for riders just starting in the adventure segment. Meanwhile, the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure are designed for more experienced riders who seek for enhanced features for extended journeys. The F 900 GS, in particular, has undergone a significant overhaul, shedding considerable weight. This weight reduction is made possible through a new plastic fuel tank, which is 4.5kg lighter than the previous steel version, and a redesigned rear section that trims an additional 2.4kg. BMW has also improved the ergonomics of the F 900 GS for off-road use. The bike now features lower footrests, a higher handlebar position, and a redesigned fuel tank to enhance stability on rough terrain. All three models come standard with an adjustable gearshift lever, with the F 900 GS also featuring a new foot brake lever. All three models come with two standard riding modes – Rain and Road – along with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and ABS Pro for improved cornering stability. For those looking for more advanced features, BMW offers an optional ‘Riding Modes Pro’ package, which adds extra riding modes, pre-selection options, and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC). Additionally, both motorcycles come with improved headlights and a new 6.5-inch display.
2024 BMW F 900 GS & F 900 GS Adventure: Powertrain
The new GS models are powered by a two-cylinder engine that first debuted with the F 850 GS in 2018. The engine capacity has been increased to 895 cc, up from 853 cc, resulting in improved power and torque. The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure deliver 105 PS and 93 Nm of torque, while the F 800 GS produces 87 PS and 91 Nm of torque. Both the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure are equipped with fully adjustable upside-down telescopic forks. Additionally, the F 900 GS can be fitted with the optional Enduro Pro package, which includes titanium nitride-coated forks, an adjustable central spring strut, and an M Endurance chain.
2024 BMW F 900 GS & F 900 GS Adventure: Pricing & competition
The new F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure are expected to command a higher premium over their predecessors. For reference, the outgoing F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure are priced at Rs 12.95 lakh and Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Upon launch, the BMW F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure will compete with the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE (Rs 10.30 lakh), Honda XL750 Transalp (Rs 11 lakh), and Triumph Tiger 900 (Rs 14.15 lakh to Rs 16.25 lakh), all prices ex-showroom.
