Cemented Carbide Properties
- Speed can be 3 to 8 times of HSS
- Can withstand upto 1000 deg. temp.
Ceramics
- Consists basically of Aluminum Oxide – 80%, and other oxides of Tin, Magnesium, Tungsten.
- Produced by the same process as Sintered Carbide.
- Harder than Cemented Carbide, HSS.
- Cutting Speed is 23 times faster than Carbide.
- Cannot withstand chattering and vibration.
Cermets
- Made up of Ceramics (90%) and metal (10%)
- EX- Aluminum Oxide + Metal ( Mo, Boron, Tin )
Carbon Boron Nitrides – CBN
- HSS are grinded by Aluminum Oxide or Silicon Carbide
- Carbides are grinded by CBN, Diamond Wheel
- Tool and Cutter Grinding uses CBN wheel.
- Consists atoms of Boron and Nitrogen
- Can replace Diamond.
- Trade Name – Borozone
- Produced by Powder Metallurgy Process
