Force Motors Developing Gurkha 4×2 Variant To Rival Thar RWD
Force Motors is working on a new 4×2 variant of its 3-door Gurkha to compete with the Mahindra Thar RWD in the off-road SUV market. This new model targets buyers who want a rugged vehicle without the necessity of advanced off-road capabilities. As an entry-level model in the Gurkha lineup, the 4×2 variant aims to appeal to a wider audience, especially those driving primarily in urban regions. This strategy is similar to Mahindra’s approach with the Thar, where RWD models now make up nearly half of its sales.
Force Gurkha 4×2 – Powertrain
Talking about its powertrain, the upcoming Gurkha 4×2 will likely be equipped with the same 2.6-litre diesel engine as the current model. This engine churns out a power output of 140 bhp, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Unlike its 4×4 counterpart, this version will not include a manual transfer case and differential locks, making it a more budget-friendly option.
Force Gurkha 4×2 – Features
Despite being a more economical version, the Gurkha 4×2 will retain the enhancements and features from the latest model update. It will continue to offer a four-seater configuration with forward-facing rear seats, ensuring a comfortable ride for both urban commuters and adventure seekers.
Force Gurkha 4×2 – Price
Currently, the 3-door Gurkha is priced at Rs 16.75 lakhs (ex-showroom). The new 4×2 variant is expected to be more competitively priced, closer to Rs 15 lakhs (ex-showroom), making it a direct rival to the Thar 4×2, which is available with its price ranging between Rs 11.35 lakhs to Rs 14.10 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Force Motors’ introduction of the Gurkha 4×2 is a strategic move to make the rugged SUV more accessible to common people. By offering a more affordable variant without the hardcore off-road hardware, the company aims to attract customers looking for a lifestyle vehicle suited for city driving and occasional off-road use.
