The Baleno based Fronx just eclipsed its siblings to be the new best-selling car of India. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx being the no1 seller shows the increasing appetite for SUV designs but not letting go for traditional desirable traits like fuel efficiency. The Fronx has also overtaken the Baleno, a car on which it is based. So, why is the Fronx so popular? Let’s find it out here:

Well, the design has to be the talking point as the good looks have been the key to make it different from the Baleno. The low roofline and the Grand Vitara like design on a more muscular body within 4m has certainly been the talking point. Plus, the 1.2l petrol which is the major selling engine here over the turbo has good efficiency similar to other Maruti cars having this engine.

The Fronx is also available with a turbo petrol, but the naturally aspirated unit has been the more popular option due to its price. Hence, the SUV styling plus the engine has been the reason for the Fronx’s success. Selling a mammoth 21,000 units plus, the Fronx till now has consistently outperformed the Baleno and some of the other Maruti cars like the Swift but the latest figure is its best yet.

This also shows the changing buyer trends in the Rs 5-15 lakh segment where once hatchbacks traditionally ruled. For Maruti Suzuki, the hatchback range is still hugely popular with Wagon R and Swift plus Baleno being big hits, but the Fronx and Brezza have been important launches to cater to the new SUV loving buyer.
