Four major Sports Awards in India are :

Rajiv Gandhi khel Ratna award
The Rajiv Gandhi calretinin award is India’s highest honor given for achievement in sports. The words ‘khel ratna’ literally means sports gym. The award is named after late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India.
The award was instituted in the year 1991- 1992 and was awarded by ministry of youths affairs and sports.
Up till 2005, the cash component was rupees 5 Lac. The money has been increased from rupees 5 Lac to rupees 7 Lac 15,000.
First awardee- Viswanathan Anand, Chess ( 1991 ).

2. Arjuna Award
The Arjuna award was instituted in 1961 by the Government of India to recognize outstanding achievement in national sports. The award carries a cash price of rupees 5 Lac, a bronze statue of Arjuna and a scoll.
From the year 2001, the award is given only in disciplines of falling under the following categories:
- Olympic Games
- Asian games
- Commonwealth Games
- World Cup
- World championship disciplines and cricket
- Indigenous games
- Sports for the physically challenged

3. Dronacharya award
Dronacharya award is an award presented by the Government of India for excellence in sports coaching. The award comprises a bronze statue of Dronacharya, a scoll of honor and a cash component of rupees 5 Lac. The award was instituted in 1985.

4. DhyanChand Award
Dhyanchand Award is India’s highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games, given by the Government of India. The award is named after the legendary Indian hockey player Dhyanchand. The award was initiated in 2002. The award carries a cash price of rupees 5 Lac.
